- where the water came from: a burst pipe, a leak, a storm, a flood, sewage or an appliance
- whether it’s still coming in
- what’s wet: carpet, floorboards, walls or ceiling, and roughly how many rooms
- how long it’s been wet
- whether it’s a house, a townhouse or a unit, and whether you own or rent
